Behind the Burn: What Really Goes Into Designing a Workout

At Girl on Fire Fitness, I don’t just throw exercises together and hope they work. Every single workout I create has purpose, planning, and heart behind it. Because as a functional trainer, my goal isn’t just to make you sweat—I want to help you move better, feel stronger, and live fuller in your everyday life. 💪
So what actually goes into designing a workout?
Let me pull back the curtain 🔥

🔍 I Start With the Whole Body—Not Just One Muscle
Sure, we might focus on a certain area (hello, leg day 🍑), but your body never moves in isolation. That’s why I take a whole-body approach to every session. Whether we’re working on strength, flexibility, mobility, or endurance, I think about how each movement affects your joints, posture, balance, and coordination.
After all, what good is a strong core if your back still hurts when you lift groceries? 🛒
🧠 Function First, Always
The word “functional” isn’t just a buzzword—it’s how I design workouts that actually translate into your daily life. That means:
Movements that mirror real life (pushing, pulling, squatting, carrying)
Stability and control (especially for knees, hips, and shoulders)
Focused core activation in everything we do (yep, even when we’re working arms!)
I want you to move well now and age well later. 🕊️
🧘♀️ Mobility, Recovery, & Flexibility Are Just As Important
You’ll always find a balance of strength and stretch in my programming. Why? Because stiffness leads to injury, and injuries lead to setbacks. Whether it’s mobility drills, dynamic warm-ups, or deep recovery flows—your body needs both work and restoration. 🌀
✨ It’s Personal
Every client is different. Your goals, your history, your energy levels—it all matters. That’s why I adapt every workout with progressions, modifications, and variations for all fitness levels. You’re never just a name on a whiteboard. You’re a whole person, and I train you like one.
From seniors working on balance, to busy moms building back strength, to athletes rebuilding from injury—I create workouts that fit you, not the other way around.
🙏 Movement Is a Gift
Lastly, I always train with the mindset that movement is a gift from God. It’s not a punishment for what we ate. It’s not just a task to check off. It’s worship. It’s strength. It’s joy.“In Him we live and move and have our being.” —Acts 17:28
That’s why I pour so much into each workout. Because I want you to feel empowered—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too.
So the next time you're in class or in a one-on-one session, know this: your workout was designed with intention, prayer, and a whole lot of love. 🧡
You’re not just moving. You’re being transformed—from the inside out.
